Imran Khan told me his first Nikkah was “Ghair Shari”: Mufti Saeed

ISLAMABAD: Mufti Muhammad Saeed on Wednesday recorded his statement before the a local court and said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan told him that his first Nikkah was “Ghair Shari” [against the sharia].
Mufti Saeed said that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi solemnized Nikkah despite that they knew that the period of Iddat [period of waiting] was incomplete.
“Imran Khan called me in February 2018 and asked me to solemnize Nikkah again,” disclosed the Mufti while recording his statement before a civil court in a case regarding marriage of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.
He said Imran Khan told him that he had prediction that he would become prime minister if he married this woman [Bushra Bibi . He stated that he verified from a woman present there if all the conditions for Nikkah were complete to which she said, “yes”.
He went on to say that that he had close ties with Imran Khan and was member of his core committee.
After recording statement of Mufti Muhammad Saeed, the court adjourned further hearing of the case till April 19.
Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan tied the knot with Bushra Bibi in 2018 few months before his party won the general elections and made government in the center.
Mufti Saeed performed Nikkah during a private ceremony held in Lahore.
The legal battle started after Mufti Saeed claimed in a private TV show that the nikkah of Imran Khan with Bushra Bibi was solemnized twice. He had claimed that Bushra Bibi was observing Iddat but he was not aware of the actual situation.
Saeed said he declared the nikkah invalid after he came to know about her iddat, adding that he then again solemnized their nikkah.
Bushra Bibi had taken khula from her former husband Khawar Manika before tying the knot with Imran Khan.
