- Imran Khan declares he is prepared to organise a committee for discussions with “anyone” in power
In a video statement, PTI Chairman Imran Khan expressed his readiness to form a committee for talks with anyone currently in power. He emphasized that the committee’s purpose would be to evaluate whether there is a viable solution that would benefit the country without his involvement. Additionally, he called for an explanation of how Pakistan would benefit from holding elections in October. Imran Khan announced his intention to form the committee the following day, seeking answers to these important questions.
During a press conference, Imran Khan highlighted the detrimental impact of those attempting to remove him from power, stating that they were causing harm to the country. He drew attention to the economic challenges faced by Pakistan, such as individuals selling off their dollars and the government’s excessive expenditure on interest payments. Imran Khan expressed concern about the lack of a clear roadmap to address these issues, which he believes is causing Pakistan to face severe difficulties.
Imran Khan drew a parallel between the treatment PTI is currently receiving and the plight of the people in occupied Kashmir. He condemned the deprivation of fundamental rights faced by both PTI and the people of Kashmir. However, he expressed confidence that whenever PTI distributes tickets for elections, the candidates selected would emerge victorious, emphasizing that the party’s popularity would only increase despite the ongoing oppression.
Imran Khan warned that the current actions being taken against PTI not only jeopardize the party but also pose a threat to democracy itself. He expressed his concerns that if these actions continue, democracy would ultimately come to an end. Imran Khan questioned the motivations behind the crackdown on PTI and urged those responsible to reassess their actions, suggesting that they need to evaluate whether their actions are truly beneficial for Pakistan and whether abandoning the party would lead to its elimination. He emphasized the importance of distinguishing between animals and humans, asserting that an idea or vision cannot be eradicated.
Imran Khan raised concerns about the whereabouts of anchorperson Imran Riaz and criticized the authorities for failing to present him in court despite court orders. He expressed apprehension that Riaz may have been subjected to torture, cautioning that this could also happen to members of the journalist community if they do not take action.
Regarding the departure of former PTI leader Shireen Mazari from politics, Imran Khan lamented her resignation and described it as a loss for both the party and the entire country. He criticized the treatment Mazari endured, being moved between different jails in the scorching heat. Imran Khan praised Mazari’s expertise and patriotism, stating that even her adversaries acknowledge her commitment to Pakistan.
Imran Khan urged PTI workers and office-bearers not to expose themselves to unnecessary risks and advised them to go into hiding. He expressed disappointment over the lack of support from human rights activists, questioning their absence and the absence of those who advocate for press freedom.
Imran Khan highlighted the plight of more than 10,000 PTI workers who are currently in jail, pointing out the poor conditions they face, including being held in small cells, deprived of adequate food and water, and denied access to their lawyers. He criticized the treatment of these individuals, emphasizing that even prisoners of war have rights that should be respected.
Imran Khan expressed frustration over the pressure on PTI leadership to leave the party, stating that the crackdown on PTI is unprecedented in the country’s history. He criticized the authorities for imprisoning not only the entire leadership but also individuals who are not even affiliated with the party. Imran Khan questioned the seriousness behind the demand for PTI members to leave the party, expressing his disbelief at the notion.
Lastly, Imran Khan revealed that the internet connection at his residence had been shut down, but he hoped that his message would reach the public. He claimed that the purpose of this internet clampdown was to control the media.
