Imran Khan apprises German Ambassador of human rights violations in Pakistan

LAHORE: Imran Khan, the former prime minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had a meeting with German Ambassador Alfred Grannas where he raised concerns over human rights violations in Pakistan.

The PTI’s official Twitter account released a statement that highlighted the discussion of bilateral issues and mutual interests during the meeting.

During the meeting, Imran Khan spoke about his party’s political philosophy and emphasized the importance of upholding fundamental human rights. The negative impact of deviation from the Constitution on democracy was also discussed, while the German Ambassador highlighted the implications for Pakistan’s GSP Plus status.

Imran Khan stated that his party is fully committed to the supremacy of the constitution and the law, as well as the promotion of democracy. He added that democracy is based on the guarantee of fundamental rights and the establishment of government on the basis of public opinion.

According to him, PTI views people as the source of power in national decision-making based on the constitution.

“The people are being deprived of their right to vote through unconstitutional measures,” said Imran Khan, adding that illegal caretaker governments are still in place in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite the expiration of the 90-day constitutional period.

The PTI chief said that the severe political crisis is causing damage to the national economy directly. False cases of treason are being filed against those who peacefully protest, support legal electoral campaigns, and express their freedom, said Imran Khan.

“The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is holding dialogues with the coalition government in a bid to resolve the issues facing the country,” he held.

German Ambassador Grannas said, “The promotion and protection of fundamental rights and democratic values are important for social progress and development. We are always ready for Pakistan’s sustainable economic and social development.”
