Heavy Fog in Lahore Halts Flights for 8 Hours
Heavy fog in Lahore continued to disrupt daily life on Tuesday, severely affecting flight operations and road traffic as visibility dropped to critically low levels across the city and surrounding areas.
According to airport authorities, flight operations at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport remained suspended for nearly eight hours due to dense fog, while four flights were diverted and landed safely at Islamabad International Airport.
Several domestic and international flights from Lahore to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Karachi were suspended until further notice as poor visibility made landings unsafe. Passengers faced prolonged delays and uncertainty as airlines monitored weather conditions throughout the day.
Road traffic was also badly impacted, with multiple motorway sections closed for safety reasons. The M-2 motorway was shut from Balkasar to Koth Momin in the direction of Lahore, while the M-3 motorway remained closed between Fazipur and Samundri.
Motorway police advised commuters to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions and urged motorists to use fog lights, maintain safe distances and reduce speed.
Meanwhile, dense fog and smog also reduced visibility in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, further disrupting intercity travel. Authorities warned that foggy conditions may persist during early morning and late night hours in the coming days due to seasonal weather patterns.
Officials said monitoring is ongoing and flight and traffic operations will resume once visibility improves to safe levels.
