Four Dead, Several Injured in Karachi’s Hawkesbay Road Crash: Speeding Blamed for Tragedy

KARACHI — July 1, 2025: A devastating traffic accident on Hawkesbay Road claimed the lives of four people — including a woman and a young girl — while leaving several others injured, Karachi police confirmed on Tuesday.

The fatal incident has once again highlighted the deadly consequences of reckless driving and poor road safety enforcement in Pakistan’s largest city.

🚗 Crash Details: High Speed Led to Disaster

According to law enforcement officials, the tragedy unfolded when a speeding car lost control while attempting to navigate a sharp turn. The vehicle slammed into the concrete wall of a stormwater drain, crumpling the car on impact.

Eyewitnesses described the horrific scene:

“The car was going at such a high speed that it was impossible to stop once it lost balance on the curve,” said a local shopkeeper who rushed to help.

The collision’s force left the car completely destroyed, killing four passengers instantly.

🕊️ Victims: Families Torn Apart

Among the deceased were a woman and a young girl whose identities have not yet been publicly disclosed pending notification of their families. Police confirmed that four other passengers suffered serious injuries.

Emergency responders shifted the injured and the deceased to Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment and necessary legal formalities.

⚠️ Separate Tanker Accident: Motorcyclist Killed in Sharafi Goth

In a separate incident the same day, Karachi’s dangerous roads claimed yet another life when a speeding water tanker ran over a motorcyclist near Future Mor in the Sharafi Goth area.

The victim, 27-year-old Muhammad Fasih, son of Abdul Basit, was killed on the spot. Police say the tanker’s driver lost control, crushing the motorcyclist before fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended by law enforcement.

📊 Rising Toll: Karachi’s Road Safety Crisis

These back-to-back accidents underscore Karachi’s growing traffic safety crisis, where reckless driving, over-speeding, and lack of effective traffic management continue to cause preventable deaths.

Hawkesbay Road, popular for its scenic beach access, has become notorious for high-speed crashes due to its sharp turns, poor lighting, and lack of barriers.

Local residents have repeatedly demanded stricter speed checks and better road safety infrastructure.

🚨 Authorities Urged to Act

Road safety activists and grieving families are calling for:

  • Immediate installation of speed breakers and warning signs on Hawkesbay Road.
  • Deployment of traffic police patrols to deter speeding.
  • Stricter penalties for reckless drivers.

“Every year, dozens of lives are lost on this road. How many more must die before the authorities fix this?” said an area resident.
