FBR Chief Dismisses Claims of Rs100bn Loss in Faceless Customs System

Islamabad (September 16, 2025) – Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial has categorically rejected reports alleging a Rs100 billion loss under the newly introduced Faceless Customs System, calling such claims baseless and misleading.

In an official statement, Langrial clarified that the reports circulating in sections of the press were based on a misinterpretation of an initial audit observation. He stressed that the faceless system was launched to boost transparency, eliminate collusion between traders and customs officials, and ensure fair revenue collection.

The FBR chief noted that the faceless customs mechanism has already delivered positive results, with revenue collection increasing by 30 percent and cases against non-compliant traders rising fourfold. He further explained that duties on luxury vehicles are being collected strictly in line with official valuation tables, and all imports are being cleared under the Import Policy Order through legal channels.

While acknowledging delays at ports, Langrial attributed the problem to congestion and procedural hurdles rather than irregularities or corruption. He also warned that legal action would be taken against those responsible for leaking audit observations or spreading misinformation that undermines public trust in the reforms.

Langrial reaffirmed that the Faceless Customs System is a cornerstone of the FBR’s reform agenda, designed to improve compliance and efficiency. He pledged that the system would be further strengthened and that stern action would be taken against elements attempting to derail these reforms.
