ECC Meeting’s 10-Point Agenda Includes Rs 803 Million Supplementary Grant for IB

In a recent meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet approved Technical Supplementary Grants for the Ministry of Housing and Works and the Intelligence Bureau. The meeting was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Federal Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir Khan, Federal Minister for Industries and Production Syed Murtaza Mahmud, Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar, and others.

The ECC granted a Technical Supplementary Grant amounting to Rs 299.997 million to the Ministry of Housing and Works. This grant will be utilized for the repair and maintenance of public buildings, aiming to ensure their proper upkeep and functionality.

Additionally, the ECC approved a Supplementary Grant of Rs 87.164 million for the Intelligence Bureau. This grant will be allocated for the purpose of covering taxes and duties incurred by the bureau.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Commerce presented a summary concerning amendments in the Import Policy Order-2022. These amendments were specifically related to the import of live animals and animal products, in accordance with the revised conditions and guidelines provided by the World Organisation of Animal Health (WOAH) regarding cattle trade.

After thorough discussion, the ECC granted approval for the proposed amendments in the relevant clauses of the Import Policy Order-2022. This decision ensures that the import regulations align with international standards set by WOAH, thereby promoting the welfare and safety of animals involved in the trade.

However, the ECC deferred two other summaries for further consideration. The first deferred summary, submitted by the Ministry of Commerce, concerned an amendment in the Import Policy Order-2022 regarding used Auto Lube Oil. The second deferred summary was presented by the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication, seeking approval for the National Telecommunication Corporation’s (NTC) budget for the financial years 2021-22 and 2022-23. These summaries will be addressed in subsequent meetings.

In unrelated news, a new Chinese ambassador arrived in the United States, expressing concerns about the “serious” challenges faced by bilateral relations between China and the US.
