Dropbox to Reduce Workforce by 16 Percent, Plans to Hire New Staff for Al Offerings

Dropbox is the latest IT business to use AI, as Microsoft and Meta Platforms compete for an advantage of the rapidly expanding industry.

Dropbox, a supplier of cloud storage, announced on Thursday that it will decrease its worldwide headcount by 16 percent in order to save expenses in the face of sluggish cloud growth and instead employ new personnel to develop its AI products.

Based in San Francisco, California As Big Tech players like Microsoft and Facebook-parent Meta Platforms compete for a piece of the rapidly expanding market with new products and offerings, Dropbox is the most recent tech company to use AI.

Drew Houston, the chief executive officer of Dropbox, stated that the company’s core cloud business development was slowing due to the strain the recession was putting on consumers, which made some of its successful initiatives unsustainable.

By the end of 2022, the business employed 3,118 full-time personnel, of whom 2,583 were based in the US.

In order to focus on its AI initiatives, the business claimed it has moved some personnel from one team to another. However, it said that it would still require additional people with a diverse range of skill sets, especially in the fields of AI and early-stage product development.

Their team was informed by Houston that “we’ve been bringing in great talent in these areas over the last couple of years, and we’ll need more in the future.”

The moment for artificial intelligence on computers has come. The opportunity we have is greater than ever, but in order to seize it, we also need to act quickly.

Houston is also a board member of Meta Platforms, a company that on Wednesday claimed that AI was assisting it in increasing traffic to Facebook and Instagram as well as ad revenue.
