CTD Busts RAW Terror Network in Karachi, Four Suspects Arrested
KARACHI: In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), with support from a sensitive intelligence agency, announced on Saturday that it had dismantled a terrorist network linked to India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the assassination of social worker Razaullah Nizamani, who was gunned down on May 18 in Matli, Badin district.
At a press conference held at the Central Police Office, Additional IGP CTD Azad Khan Tanoli, alongside DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar, revealed that investigators had traced the plot back to a RAW network operating through local collaborators. He said the murder was carried out during heightened Pakistan-India tensions following the Marka-e-Haq incidents of May 9–10.
According to CTD officials, the Indian media immediately exploited Nizamani’s killing as propaganda, attempting to frame it as a strike against an “Indian enemy” inside Pakistan.
RAW Handler Identified as Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar
Investigators identified the mastermind of the operation as RAW officer Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, who is believed to be operating from a Gulf country. The main local operative, Salman Virk of Sheikhupura, fled abroad after the killing and later escaped to Nepal.
CTD officials confirmed that RAW provided financial support to the network using banking channels and underground methods, and the suspects were frequently in contact with their handler during the mission. “RAW spent huge sums of money to execute this killing. The handler, Sanjay Kumar, remained in constant contact with the suspects during the operation,” Tanoli said.
Four Suspects Arrested in Karachi
The CTD arrested Umair Asghar, Sajjad, Obaid, and Shakeel on July 8 through technical surveillance. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being part of RAW’s local network and confessed to ties with a banned militant outfit. They further disclosed that they were planning additional terrorist attacks in Karachi before being arrested.
Two pistols, a motorcycle, and mobile phones used in the murder of Razaullah Nizamani were recovered during the raids.
RAW’s Network in Sindh Under Probe
The CTD chief further revealed that investigators have uncovered RAW’s links with a separatist group in Sindh. He warned that this was part of a wider attempt by India’s intelligence agency to destabilize Pakistan by funding militant groups and exploiting ethnic and political divisions.
“RAW often relies on criminal and terrorist groups inside Pakistan to carry out targeted killings, sabotage, and propaganda campaigns,” Tanoli said, adding that more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
This development underscores Pakistan’s repeated concerns about RAW’s involvement in terror financing and subversive activities across the country. The Sindh CTD’s success in dismantling this network is seen as a major blow to India’s covert operations on Pakistani soil.
