COAS Asim Munir warns Afghan Taliban: “Every state proxy will be reduced to dust”

Asim Munir warns Afghan Taliban

RAWALPINDI : Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Saturday issued a stern warning to the Afghan Taliban, urging them to rein in proxies operating from Afghan soil and stop attacks inside Pakistan. Delivering his address at the Passing Out Parade of the 152nd PMA Long Course held at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul, the Army Chief emphasized that Pakistan’s patience should not be mistaken for weakness.

Asim Munir warned the Afghan Taliban that the continued use of Afghan territory for terrorism against Pakistan would have serious consequences. “Be assured that, like our victory in the conventional domain, every state proxy of our neighbor will be reduced to dust — Inshallah,” he said firmly. He appealed to the people of Afghanistan to choose peace and progress over extremism and to reject groups that promote perpetual violence in the name of religion.

The Army Chief expressed concern over the use of Afghan soil by terrorist organizations, including those targeting Pakistan’s security forces and civilians. “Equally disconcerting is the use of Afghan soil for terrorism in Pakistan,” Munir said, adding that such actions threaten regional peace and stability. Security analysts note that Pakistan has faced a surge in militant attacks since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, with several incidents linked to groups operating from across the border.

In his wide-ranging address, Field Marshal Asim Munir also touched on Pakistan’s relations with India, emphasizing that there is no space for war in a nuclearised environment. He urged India to resolve core bilateral issues with Pakistan on the basis of equality, justice, and mutual respect, in line with international law. “Having failed in its belligerence against Pakistan during Operation Marka-e-Haq, India continues to pursue state-sponsored terrorism as a preferred policy,” he stated.

The COAS praised the sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies in the fight against terrorism. He said the entire nation stands united with its defenders, particularly the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, who have suffered the most from terror incidents. “Our strength lies in our unity and our faith in Allah. We will defeat every proxy and every plot against Pakistan,” he reaffirmed.

The Army Chief’s statement quickly gained traction on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, where many Pakistanis expressed support for his bold stance. Regional experts believe Munir’s remarks reflect Islamabad’s growing frustration over Kabul’s inaction against militants, despite repeated diplomatic engagements.

Analysts view this warning as part of Pakistan’s renewed counter-terrorism posture, signaling that the military will act decisively if cross-border threats persist. Observers also highlight that Asim Munir’s comments reinforce Pakistan’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and foreign-sponsored proxies, especially in the wake of recent attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The message from Field Marshal Asim Munir is unmistakable — Pakistan’s security and sovereignty are non-negotiable. His warning to the Afghan Taliban underscores Islamabad’s resolve to protect its borders and citizens from external threats, while maintaining its call for peaceful coexistence in the region.
