Chaudhry Shujaat demands ban on PTI after May 9 riots

After the May 9 riots, Chaudhry Shujaat demanded a ban on the PTI.

LAHORE: During a media interaction at the Lahore Press Club, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the chief of Pakistan Muslim League (PML), demanded strict action against those responsible for the attack on military installations. He further urged the government to ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Addressing a press conference at the Muslim League House, Hussain highlighted that individuals involved in such activities would face legal consequences under the Army Act and the Official Secrets Act. He emphasized that becoming a leader requires more than inciting people, as the position of the army chief should be respected. Any action or statement against the army chief, according to him, would be considered defamatory towards the entire army.

Additionally, Hussain called for the PTI party to be prohibited from holding governmental positions.

He expressed his party’s intention to participate in the upcoming elections under their own banner, focusing on promoting their agenda. Despite attempts to form a joint platform with all parties of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for the elections, they failed to reach a consensus on contesting together.

Hussain asserted that no one would be allowed to disrupt the peace of the country through acts of vandalism.

The rally also featured speeches by PML chief organiser Chaudhry Sarwar and General Secretary Chaudhry Shaffay Hussain.
