Bus–Trailer Collision on Motorway Kills Bus Hostess, 14 Passengers Injured Near Khanewal

Bus–Trailer Collision on Motorway Leaves Bus Hostess Dead, 14 Injured

KHANEWAL: A tragic bus–trailer collision on motorway claimed the life of a bus hostess and left at least 14 passengers injured near the Makhdoom Pur Interchange on the M-4 Motorway on Saturday, authorities confirmed.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the emergency control room received an alert regarding a severe accident involving a passenger bus traveling from Lahore to Multan and a trailer. Emergency teams rushed to the scene without delay and launched rescue operations.

Several passengers were trapped inside the damaged bus following the collision. Rescue personnel used specialized equipment to extricate the victims and provided on-site first aid to nine injured passengers. The bus hostess died on the spot due to the severity of her injuries, while five passengers were reported to be in critical condition.

All injured passengers, along with the deceased, were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital in Kabirwala for further medical treatment. Hospital officials said that emergency medical care is being provided and the condition of critically injured passengers is being closely monitored.

A spokesperson for the Motorway Police stated that preliminary investigations suggest the accident occurred due to the bus driver’s negligence and possible drowsiness while driving. Authorities have initiated further inquiry to determine responsibility and assess whether traffic safety protocols were violated.

The incident once again highlights growing concerns over road safety and driver fatigue on Pakistan’s motorways, particularly during long-distance travel.

Earlier this week, another tragic traffic incident was reported in Karachi’s Orangi Town, where a four-year-old child was run over by a water tanker in the Farid Colony area. The child, identified as Sufiyan, died on the spot, while the tanker driver fled the scene. Police later took the vehicle into custody and launched a search for the driver.

Rising incidents of fatal road accidents across the country have renewed calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, regular driver fitness checks, and improved monitoring on highways and motorways to prevent further loss of life.
