Bangladesh Beat Pakistan by Eight Wickets in First ODI

Bangladesh national cricket team delivered a dominant performance to defeat the Pakistan national cricket team by eight wickets in the opening One-Day International at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest 115-run target, the hosts comfortably reached the total in 15.1 overs, losing just two wickets thanks to a strong batting display led by Tanzid Hasan.

Tanzid’s Fifty Seals Easy Victory

Bangladesh got off to a confident start as openers Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan put together an early partnership. Tanzid attacked Pakistan’s pace attack, particularly targeting bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf.

Afridi eventually broke the 27-run opening stand, dismissing Saif Hassan for four.

After the breakthrough, Tanzid combined with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to build a commanding partnership, taking Bangladesh past the 50-run mark inside seven overs.

The pair added 82 runs for the second wicket, dominating Pakistan’s bowling with regular boundaries and sixes.

Tanzid continued his impressive form and scored his fifth ODI half-century, finishing unbeaten on 67 off 42 balls, which included seven fours and five sixes. Shanto contributed 27 runs off 33 deliveries before being dismissed by Mohammad Wasim Jr.

Bangladesh completed the chase with ease, with Litton Das remaining not out at the end.

Pakistan Collapse After Promising Start

Earlier, Pakistan chose to bat first and made a promising start through openers Maaz Sadaqat and Sahibzada Farhan, who added 41 runs for the opening wicket.

However, Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana triggered a dramatic collapse by dismissing Farhan for 27 off 38 balls.

Rana struck again soon after, removing debutant Shamyl Hussain for four. He continued to dismantle the batting lineup, later dismissing Maaz Sadaqat for 18 runs.

Pakistan’s middle order struggled under pressure as captain Mohammad Rizwan managed just 10 runs before falling to Rana.

Rana produced a match-winning spell, finishing with 5 wickets for 24 runs in seven overs, tearing through Pakistan’s batting order.

Bangladesh Bowlers Dominate

Bangladesh’s bowling attack kept Pakistan under constant pressure:

  • Nahid Rana – 5/24
  • Mehidy Hasan Miraz – 3 wickets
  • Mustafizur Rahman – 1 wicket
  • Taskin Ahmed – 1 wicket

Pakistan’s innings ended at 115 runs, with Faheem Ashraf providing some resistance by scoring 37 off 47 balls.

The comprehensive victory gives Bangladesh an early lead in the ODI series, while Pakistan will look to bounce back in the next match.
