Government and Judiciary Respond Swiftly
In the wake of public pressure, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the murders and called Balochistan CM Sarfaraz Bugti to ensure a thorough investigation.
“No one is above the law. Barbarism and tribal justice systems have no place in a civilized society.”
— PM Shehbaz Sharif
The Balochistan High Court Chief Justice has also taken suo motu notice, summoning senior provincial officials including the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and Inspector General of Police on July 22.
Arrests and Legal Developments
- 11 suspects have been arrested so far, including tribal chief Sardar Sherbaz Satakzai.
- Raids are ongoing, but police face resistance from villagers, including stone-pelting by local women.
- CM Bugti described this case as a “test case” for enforcing the rule of law over tribal customs.
The FIR has not yet been filed due to hesitation from both families, complicating prosecution.
Chief Minister Bugti Takes Firm Stand
CM Sarfraz Bugti stated:
- The state will not allow illegal jirga systems to override the law.
- Law enforcement is facing difficulties, but “justice will be done.”
- “This tragedy could have spiraled into tribal warfare, but we are containing the damage,” he added.
