ATC dismisses interim bail of PTI President Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi

LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday dismissed the interim bail of PTI President and former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhary Pervaiz for his alleged involvement in a case related to attacking the police with petrol bomb and interfering into the official work.

The court also turned the down the plea Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi seeking one-day exemption from personal appearance before it.

The former Punjab CM was booked under 7ATA for attacking the police outside his residence in Gulberg area of the provincial capital.

“We submitted an application in the court with the medical report but the court turned it down,” said Advocate Amir Saeed Rawn, the counsel of Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi.

On May 4, the ATC granted interim bail to the PTI president till May 11 (today) against him for his alleged involvement in hurling petrol bombs at the police and interfering into the official work.

ATC Judge Ijaz Ahmed Buttar had passed the orders and directed him to deposit Rs50,000 as surety bond.

The case was registered at Ghalib Market police station in Lahore, and Elahi was ordered by the court to join the investigation into the matter.

Elahi, a former Chief Minister of Punjab, has been involved in multiple legal cases, including allegations of corruption. In another case, an ATC in Gujrat granted him interim bail till May 23 in two separate corruption cases.

Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Court extended till May 25 in a corruption case against the former Punjab CM.

It may be mentioned here that the government authorities have launched crackdown against the PTI leaders in a bid to detain them after arrest of party Chairman Imran Khan. The police arrested seven key leaders including Shah Mahmood Qureshi,  Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhary, Omar Sarfraz Cheema, Falak Naz, Musarrat Jamsheed Cheema and Malaika Bokhari from Islamabad, saying that they wanted to maintain the law and order situation in the country.
