Asia Cup 2025 to Begin on September 9 in UAE, Confirms Mohsin Naqvi

The much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 is set to begin on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), running through September 28, according to an official announcement by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi.

Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, expressing excitement over the event’s confirmation.

“I am delighted to confirm the dates for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 in UAE. The prestigious tournament will take place from September 9th to 28th. We look forward to a spectacular display of cricket! Detailed schedule will be out soon,” he posted.

T20 Format with Six Teams

The 17th edition of the Asia Cup will follow the T20 format, featuring six major Asian cricketing nations:

  • Pakistan
  • India
  • Sri Lanka
  • Bangladesh
  • Afghanistan
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The tournament will include a group stage, followed by a Super Four round, culminating in a high-stakes final. The complete fixture list is expected to be released in the coming weeks.

India’s Participation Confirmed

In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed India’s participation, setting aside prior concerns over political tensions with Pakistan.

This decision paves the way for the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash, which continues to be one of the biggest attractions in global cricket.

Despite recent diplomatic friction, both cricket boards have reportedly agreed on a “fusion formula” to keep ICC and ACC events neutral, meaning India and Pakistan will not tour each other’s countries for at least three years. Matches involving both nations will be hosted at neutral venues like the UAE.

Recent History of Bilateral Tensions

The Asia Cup announcement comes amid ongoing disputes between the PCB and BCCI, including India’s refusal to play the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, leading to complex negotiations and hosting adjustments.

This compromise avoids further disruptions and ensures that fans can witness one of cricket’s most-watched rivalries on a neutral and secure platform.
