Another Child Rescued After Falling Into Open Manhole in Lahore, Bystanders Act Quickly

LAHORE: A child narrowly escaped a potentially fatal accident after falling into an open manhole in the Manawan area of Lahore, highlighting growing public safety concerns over uncovered sewerage holes in the city.

According to reports, the child slipped into the open manhole near the BMC stop while walking, but was quickly rescued by alert bystanders before any official rescue team arrived. CCTV footage of the incident shows the child suddenly losing balance and falling into the sewer hole, followed by bystanders rushing to pull him out safely.

Local residents expressed frustration, stating that they had repeatedly alerted the assistant commissioner of Wagah Town about the dangerous uncovered manholes, but no preventive action had been taken. They warned that such hazards have become a serious threat to lives and urged senior Punjab authorities to address the issue immediately.

This incident comes just a week after a woman and her young daughter tragically died after falling into an open manhole near Bhatti Gate in Lahore. Following that tragedy, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered a thorough investigation, which led to the arrest of five individuals in connection with the incident.

Authorities have been urged to implement strict safety measures across Lahore to prevent further accidents, as citizens continue to face life-threatening risks due to neglected urban infrastructure.
