Aleema Khan Interference in PTI Sparks Rift Among Senior Leaders
ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is facing fresh internal tensions as senior party figures express concern over Aleema Khan interference in PTI matters, especially regarding key nominations, according to sources quoted by ARY News.
Insiders revealed that Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, is allegedly influencing the party’s decision about who will fill the Senate seat vacated by Sania Nishtar. Imran Khan had reportedly directed senior leader Mashal Yousafzai to submit nomination papers for the seat, but Aleema Khan opposed her nomination and instead pushed for Sajida Zulfiqar, a relative of ex-PTI leader Pervez Khattak, and a family member of Fida Muhammad, who has already left PTI.
Mashal Yousafzai is believed to have the support of Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s wife. However, some PTI leaders have started lobbying for other contenders, including Samira Shams and Momina Basit, intensifying internal competition.
Earlier this year, PTI attempted to resolve disagreements between Aleema Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to present a united front. A recent high-level meeting in Islamabad, attended by Imran Khan’s three sisters, Gandapur, and the party’s legal team, focused on party unity and accelerating efforts to secure Khan’s release from Adiala Jail.
Sources said Aleema Khan clarified that she and her sisters are not politically active but will continue advocating for their brother’s freedom. PTI leaders decided to step up the campaign for Khan’s release and instructed parliamentarians to attend court proceedings related to his cases.
Despite efforts to mend internal divisions, the Aleema Khan interference in PTI has reportedly caused fresh friction among party ranks, exposing the challenges the party faces while its founder remains behind bars.
