RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir visited Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) on Tuesday, said Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the visit, the military’s media wing said, the COAS was briefed on the technical capabilities of HIT, ongoing projects, indigenization efforts, and recent modernization measures. The COAS visited various factories within HIT and observed the manufacturing, rebuild, and upgradation of tanks, APCs, enhanced protection solutions, remote weapon systems, and indigenous 155 mm Artillery gun barrels for the Pak Army.
The COAS acknowledged that HIT is a hub of knowledge economy and R&D that plays a crucial role in achieving self-reliance in defense production, and contributes towards national exports and the economy.
The army chief expressed his confidence in the capabilities of HIT’s personnel and appreciated the officers and workforce’s commitment to transforming HIT into a modern defense production establishment that meets the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) requirements at international standards. Upon his arrival, the COAS was received by the Chairman of HIT.
