PML-N’s Sardar Ayaz Saqid Elected as NA Speaker
Islamabad: Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, a leader from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was sworn in as the 23rd speaker of the National Assembly on Friday after securing 199 votes in the election. The PML-N politician defeated Malik Aamir Dogar, supported by the PTI, who garnered 91 votes out of the 291 total votes. One vote was deemed invalid. Following the announcement of the results, Sadiq met with Dogar and other lawmakers.
Expressing gratitude, the newly elected speaker thanked leaders from major political parties for trusting his leadership. Sadiq previously served as the custodian of the house from June 6, 2013, to August 8, 2015, and then from November 9, 2015, to August 15, 2018.
During his address to the lawmakers, Sadiq pledged to run the affairs of the house with fairness and assured opposition members that he would be impartial.
He expressed gratitude to PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for nominating him and mentioned his intention to foster a consensus in politics with the involvement of all stakeholders. Sadiq urged both sides of the aisle to express differences democratically, emphasizing open communication and collaboration.
