Nawaz Sharif’s Return to Pakistan Confirmed: Family Sources

London, September 9, 2023Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif has officially confirmed that he will be returning to Pakistan in October this year after residing in London for nearly four years due to health concerns.

Nawaz Sharif made this announcement during a gathering with his party workers and supporters at Stanhope House in London. The meeting was attended by prominent PML-N leaders, including former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chaudhary Tanveer, Danyal Chaudhary, Chaudhary Nadeem Khan, Dr. Anjum, and others.

While Nawaz did not specify an exact date for his return, sources present at the meeting indicated that his travel to Pakistan is confirmed for next month. Earlier reports by Geo News had suggested that Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan in the middle of October, during the second half of the month.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif had previously confirmed his brother’s return plans, stating, “Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan in October and lead the election campaign, and this decision was made after consultations within the PML-N party.” Shehbaz also emphasized that Nawaz Sharif would fully cooperate with the legal processes upon his return.

Nawaz had left Pakistan for London on November 19, 2019, after experiencing a severe deterioration in his health while in prison. His family alleged that there were attempts to poison him, implicating the Imran Khan-led government and its supporters.

During his stay in London, Nawaz received extensive medical treatment at the Harley Street Clinic and London Bridge Hospital for a period of four months. He was diagnosed with an immune system disorder, and doctors in Pakistan had recommended foreign medical treatment due to the severity of his condition.

Nawaz Sharif’s impending return has sparked significant interest and discussions in Pakistan’s political landscape, as it coincides with the preparations for the upcoming elections. The PML-N, under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, is expected to play a prominent role in the political campaigns leading up to the elections.
