Karachi: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, is expected to attend a ceremony today, which marks the successful completion of a major coal-fired power project in Thar Block-1.
Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company (Pvt) Ltd has announced that the Prime Minister will be present at the event to mark the commercial operation date (COD) for the 2X660MW coal-fired power plant project. It is worth noting that the coal power plant has already passed the 168-hour reliability operation test and began its commercial operation on February 5, 2023.
According to Meng Donghai, the CEO of Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company (PVT) Limited, on 4th February 2023 at noon time (Pakistan local time), the 2X660MW high-parameter supercritical units of the company completed the 168-hour full load reliability run test (RRT).
As a result, both units officially entered the commercial operation stage at midnight on February 5, 2023.This signifies the completion of the Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project construction.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed and Member of National Assembly Dr. Mahesh Milani, along with their teams, recently paid a visit to the TCB-1 premises to extend their congratulations on the successful completion of the 168-hours RRT for the Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project.
The two units are operating smoothly and have an annual production capacity of 9 billion kWh, which can effectively meet the electricity demands of nearly 4 million households in Pakistan. This will significantly reduce the local power shortage, minimize energy imports, and ensure the strategic energy security of Pakistan.
Under the leadership of Shanghai Electric, the development of the two units has been carried out. Donghai emphasized that his company has made every effort to enhance the living standards of the local community.
TCB-1 remains faithful to its mission, which is to advance technological innovation while also prioritizing the betterment of the local community. The project is dedicated to protecting the local environment, fostering economic development, and creating job opportunities for the local population.
During the construction phase, the project generated over 18,000 direct employment opportunities, produced more than 135 million US dollars in tax revenue for the region and assumed corporate social responsibility costs exceeding 1.3 million US dollars. Together with the local community, TCB-1 is working towards a brighter future.
