Imran Khan, other PTI leaders booked over violence in Zaman Park

Lahore: The police lodged First Information Report (FIA) against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and other party leaders over charges of committing violence against the law enforcers in Zaman Park, the latest reports suggested on Thursday.

Station House Officer (SHO) Rehan Anwar of Race Course Police Station lodged complaint on behalf of the police against the PTI chief and other party leaders.

The police booked Khan and others over charges of terrorism, interference into the affairs of the state, illegal gathering, and for not receiving the court notices.

The complainant said that 63 policemen including Islamabad DIG Operations got injured during the violence committed by the hundreds of PTI workers and supporters. He said that the workers also caused huge trouble for the public besides damaging state properties.

He said that the PTI workers also used petrol bombs and put the lives of the law enforcers at risk.

The latest reports suggested that the police registered the FIR against PTI chief and former prime minister Imran Khan and other leaders.

The development took place a day after the police stopped the operation in Zaman Park in compliance of the Lahore High Court (LHC) order.

The footages, however, showed that the police used tear gas and water cannons against the PTI workers and continued to advance towards the residence of Imran Khan. The footages showed the shells inside the residence of Imran Khan and neighbours.  The Rangers were called in but they also faced huge resistance during the operation.

The operation started after PTI Chief Imran Khan failed to turn up before the sessions court seized with the hearing of Thoshakhana reference. Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal restored the arrest warrant issued against the PTI chief and the federal police reached Zaman Park to implement the court orders.

The ECP last year had given a verdict disqualifying Imran Khan over charges of retaining Thoshakhana gifts and concealing the same. The electoral watchdog had declared him dishonest and corrupt and moved a reference to the sessions court seeking criminal proceedings against him over the issue of Thoshakhan gifts.
