FIR filed against 1700 Indian Muslims for offering prayers on roads

In a recent incident that has caused controversy and anger among the Muslim community in India, FIRs have been lodged against 1700 Muslims for offering Eid namaz on the road as it is banned in India. The incident occurred in Kanpur, where police stations have filed FIRs against 200 to 300 worshippers in Jajmau, 40 to 50 in Babupurwa, and 1500 in Bajaria, for offering prayers on the road outside Jajmau, Babupurwa, and Badi Idgah Benazhabar on April 22nd.

The FIR has been lodged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code that includes obstruction of public servants, disobedience to orders, danger in a public way, punishment for wrongful restraint, and criminal force to deter public servants from the discharge of their duty. According to the police, they took action based on a video they shot of the praying men. However, members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board have denied the police claim and said that a particular community is being targeted.

Mohammad Suleman, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, further stated that it seems that the nation belongs to only one religion. He added that prayers were held inside the campus of mosques and Idgahs, and there is no such big Idgah in Babupurwa. If people get no space for 10 minutes, they pray on the road. Similarly, prayers were held on the road in Babupurwa, but the station in charge of Babupurwa lodged an FIR.
