ISPR says Gen (retd) Bajwa’s statement on ‘combat readiness’ misquoted

RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has released a statement on Friday refuting the recent media discussions about Pakistan Army’s combat readiness and the alleged comments made by former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The ISPR claims that General Bajwa’s views on the “future threat to Pakistan” have been taken out of context by the media. The military’s media wing emphasized that Pakistan’s armed forces have always taken pride in their operational preparedness and combat readiness. The statement further stated that the country’s weapons, equipment, and “battle-hardened human resource” are always kept ready to defend the motherland.

The ISPR’s statement was issued following journalist Hamid Mir’s recent interview on a local television channel, where he claimed that General Bajwa had said in an off-the-record interactive session with journalists that the Pakistan Army was not capable of combat. Mir also alleged that General Bajwa had made a deal on occupied Kashmir after the 2021 ceasefire between Pakistan and India at the Line of Control. According to Mir, the details of the deal have not been made public.

The ISPR’s statement is aimed at clarifying the recent media discussions about Pakistan Army’s combat readiness and ensuring that the public has complete confidence in the army’s capabilities. The statement also highlights the army’s determination to keep its equipment, weapons, and human resources in top condition to defend the country.
