ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held talks to discuss the poll date as directed by the Supreme Court.
During the first round of discussions at the Parliament House’s Committee Room Number 3, both sides presented their top leadership’s stance.
The government delegation included Ishaq Dar, Yousaf Raza Gilani, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Naveed Qamar, while the opposition delegation included Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry, and Barrister Ali Zafar.
Gilani stated that a decision would be made after consultations with all parties, and Qureshi emphasized the importance of political parties finding solutions to problems through talks.
Notably, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the president of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), did not participate in the talks, stating that the Election Commission of Pakistan should handle consultations. The political situation has caused economic distress, with the rupee depreciating to record lows against the dollar and foreign exchange reserves shrinking to under a month’s import cover.
Earlier, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar contacted PTI leader Ali Zafar at the behest of the prime minister to kickstart the dialogue process, said the media reports.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) named three-member committee which will hold dialogue with the coalition government. The body comprises PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Senator Ali Zafar and Fawad Chaudhry.
