4 killed in new spell of rains in Balochistan

QUETTA: Several areas of Balochistan, including Quetta, have experienced heavy rainfall in the past four days, resulting in damage to dozens of houses and claiming four lives in rain-related incidents, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The director-general of PDMA, Naseer Ahmed, stated that one person died in a road accident in Turbat, a woman was killed in Lasbela due to a lightning strike, and two children died in Khuzdar after their house was struck by lightning. Ahmed also said that dozens of houses in Panjgur district had been damaged by the rainfall, and the PDMA had relocated citizens to safer areas.

The PDMA has already issued alerts and deployed teams, as over 20 districts of Balochistan have been affected by monsoon rains. At least 23 districts have received rainfall in the past 24 hours, with more expected in 11 districts in the next 24 hours.

Balochistan National Highway Authority (NHA) has temporarily reopened the Quetta-Sukkur highway for light traffic after a bridge near Bolan washed away. However, only small vehicles will be allowed to pass, while cargo vehicles will only be permitted once the bridge is fully restored. The Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families and directed authorities to prepare for any emergency situation in the affected areas.
