Woman Commits Suicide After Being Called ‘Monkey’ in Lucknow

A tragic incident in India’s Uttar Pradesh state has sparked renewed concern over domestic pressure and emotional abuse, after a 28-year-old woman allegedly took her own life following a family dispute in Lucknow.

According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred in the Indira Nagar area of the state capital, where the woman, identified as Tanu Singh, was found dead inside her home. Police confirmed that they were alerted by family members and reached the scene to initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Relatives told local media that Tanu had long harboured ambitions of pursuing a career in modelling and had a deep interest in fashion and personal grooming. However, they claimed that her aspirations were consistently discouraged by her husband and in-laws, which reportedly caused her prolonged emotional distress.

On the day of the incident, a family conversation allegedly turned into an argument after her husband, Rahul Singh, made a remark that was described as a joke. Family members said the comment, in which she was reportedly referred to as a “monkey,” deeply upset Tanu. Following the exchange, she went into her room and did not come out for a long time.

Growing concerned over her lack of response, the family checked on her and found her unconscious. Police were subsequently informed, but she could not be revived.

Authorities stated that statements from close family members have been recorded as part of the investigation. Police officials added that all possible angles are being examined, including allegations of mental harassment, and that further legal action will be determined after the inquiry is completed.

The incident has once again highlighted the serious impact of emotional abuse, ridicule and lack of support within domestic settings, particularly on young women facing pressure over personal choices and aspirations.
