ISLAMABAD: According to a report from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) showed a weekly inflation increase of 0.92% for the week ending on April 6, resulting in a year-on-year increase of 44.49%.
As of April 6, 2023, the combined index was 252.06, up from 249.75 on March 30, 2023, and 174.45 on April 7, 2022. Of the 51 monitored items, 27 had an average price increase, seven decreased, and 17 remained unchanged for the week.
Chicken, sugar, potatoes, and bananas experienced the most significant price increases compared to the previous year, while tomatoes, onions, LPG, pulse gram, vegetable ghee 2.5 kg, garlic, and mustard oil experienced price decreases.
The largest price increases over the same week a year ago were seen in cigarettes, wheat flour, gas charges for Q1, diesel, eggs, tea Lipton, rice basmati broken, bananas, petrol, rice irri-6/9, pulse moong, potatoes, pulse mash, and onions, while tomatoes and powdered chillies had price decreases.
