The United States has implemented fresh visa restrictions targeting Israelis implicated in acts of violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The U.S. State Department says this is in response to a rise in violence in recent months and calls on Israel to take stronger action to hold those responsible accountable.
Certain Israelis and their families are now barred from entering the United States under these measures. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller explained that while Israel has made some efforts to address settler violence by arresting some perpetrators, these actions are deemed insufficient.
One notable individual affected by these restrictions is former Israeli soldier Elor Azaria. He was convicted and sentenced to nine months in prison for fatally shooting a wounded Palestinian in 2016.
