Yusuf Dikec, the Turkish sharpshooter who won a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, has applied to trademark his famous pose that went viral worldwide. His coach, Erdinc Bilgili, explained that Dikec took this step to control the commercial use of his distinctive stance after discovering that others had attempted to trademark it without his permission.
Bilgili mentioned that they filed the trademark application about a week ago following reports of unauthorized attempts to register the pose. “After learning about several trademark applications made without Yusuf Dikec’s knowledge, we decided to take action,” Bilgili told AFP. He added that previous applications for the trademark had been denied.
Dikec’s relaxed pose, which became widely popular online, has inspired numerous memes and comparisons to fictional spy James Bond. Even Tesla founder Elon Musk shared a video of himself mimicking the pose. Since winning silver in the mixed-team 10m air pistol event with his teammate Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, Dikec’s stance has been widely copied. Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson also adopted the pose during his celebration after scoring against Crystal Palace in the English Premier League.

In an interview with AFP earlier in August, Dikec explained that his hand-in-pocket pose was simply a technique to maintain stability and balance. “I do it to keep my body more stable, to keep my balance. There’s nothing more to it,” he said.
