- CJP Bandial asks lawyers to use video links to avoid long traveling
Quetta: Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial said they decided the cases under the law and the Constitution, saying that the state is responsible for provision and security of the fundamental rights of the citizens.
“Supremacy of the law ensures prosperity and development of a country,” said CJP Bandial while addressing a ceremony at the Supreme Court Registry in Quetta on Monday.
The CJP said that the state’s role was like a mother’s role, and therefore, strengthening the state institution is very important.
The top judge said that protection of the fundamental rights is the responsibility of the courts and its enforcement was the duty of the government authorities.
He expressed satisfaction over disposal of the cases in the supreme court, saying that they disposed of around 24,000 cases this year.
“We have not that much resources. There are 17 judges in the top court and six benches hear the matters,” said the CJP, pointing out their working environment in the top court.
“We decide the matter under the law and the top cases are related to the liberty as many people are in the jail,” said the CJP, adding that they decide the point of law.
The CJP urged the lawyers to use video links for hearing of their cases in the Supreme Court, saying that the traveling from Islamabad to Quetta was now quite expensive.
“The plane ticket is no more affordable to travel from Islamabad to Quetta,” said CJP Bandial, pointing out travel hardships.
He also emphasized over end of personal differences for the sake of the country.
“The unity is imperative and it is better if we go side by side,” he said, adding that it is the right time to end all differences.
Bandial also asked the lawyers to support rule of law and quoted a verse from the Holy Quran. He stated that the rule of law was important for development of any country.
