Rare Leopard Shot Dead in Balochistan

In Sui area of Dera Bugti, Balochistan, locals shot and killed a rare leopard. This incident happened recently and the leopard was shot multiple times.

The Dera Bugti administration has taken action, filing a police report against those responsible for killing the leopard. An investigation is now ongoing.

This tragic event follows another concerning incident in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where leopard cubs were reportedly shot dead just before Eid ul Adha. Pictures of the cubs surfaced on social media, prompting wildlife authorities to launch a search for them.

According to the Pakistan Wildlife Department, leopards are protected animals under the law. It is illegal to hunt them in all provinces of Pakistan. Leopards are mostly found in northern Pakistan, although there are occasional sightings in parts of Balochistan.

Leopards face many threats, including deforestation and illegal trading of their skins. They are also at risk due to conflicts with locals who may not be aware of their protected status and the importance of preserving their habitat.
