The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former provincial minister, Mian Aslam Iqbal, have been accused of intimidating and harassing a citizen, leading to the police registering a case against them on Friday. The case was filed by citizen Syed Sajjad at the Samanabad Police Station in Lahore, which resulted in the registration of a case against the PTI leader under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including criminal intimidation and the Telegraph Act.
According to the plaintiff, he was recording a video of the PTI’s foundation day ceremony in Lahore when some of Aslam’s associates detained him, accusing him of being an intelligence agency agent. He claimed he was tortured and his two cell phones and cash of Rs25,000 was also taken away the unknown people on the behalf of Aslam Iqbal.
The sections under which the case has been registered are serious, and if proven guilty, the accused may face severe consequences. The charges of criminal intimidation and harassment are particularly concerning, as they indicate an abuse of power and a violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.
It is crucial to note that every citizen has the right to freedom of expression and speech, which includes the right to record videos or take pictures of public events. Any attempt to infringe upon these rights is a violation of the law and must be dealt with strictly.
The case against PTI and Aslam Iqbal is a reminder that no one is above the law, and justice must be served to ensure that citizens’ rights are protected. It is now up to the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring the culprits to justice.
