KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited (PSX) has announced that it will remain close on Jumu’atul-Wida– the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan.
The PSX informed Trading Rights Entitlement (TRE) Certificate holders, staff members as well as other relevant people about closure of the exchange.
The announcement came as it is the last Ash’ra of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitre is approaching fast.
Ramadan started on March 23 after the moon sighting on March 22.
Earlier, there were speculations making rounds in different circles that Eid-ul-Fitre would be on April 20 but Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council Secretary General Khalid Aijaz rejected the possibility saying that the moon would not be sighted on April 20.
The General Secretary had said that Ramadan is likely to be of complete 30 days this time as the crescent that marks the beginning of Shawwal will appear after this period.
If it goes as he says then Eidul Fitre is likely to be on April 22 , Saturday.
Khalid Aijaz also explained that the new crescent is yet to be born on April 20 at 9: 13 am and its age would be less than 10 hours that day.
He stated that visibility of the crescent required time of more than 19 hours, so the moon would not be sighted despite that there was possibility of clear sky on April 20. So, he argued, the month of Ramadan would last for 30 days and the first of Shawwal would be on April 22.
