PMD Warns of Strong Monsoon Activity in the Next 3 Days

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about the upcoming weather conditions in the upper and central regions of the country. The department predicts that these areas will experience rain and wind-thundershowers from July 27 to July 30 due to the influence of monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and a westerly wave present in the region.

The regions likely to be affected include Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Balochistan. The PMD has specifically mentioned areas like Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, and others in the forecast.

The weather department has also warned that heavy falls of rain and wind-thundershowers may occur in certain regions, potentially leading to flash floods and hill torrents. Balochistan and Dera Ghazi Khan are particularly at risk on the night of July 27 and July 28. Other areas like Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and more may experience similar conditions from July 27 to 29.

Urban flooding is a possibility in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad during this period. Additionally, there is a risk of landslides in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The PMD has issued some important advice to the public to ensure their safety and well-being during this period of vigorous monsoon activity:

  1. Farmers: Farmers are advised to plan their agricultural activities accordingly, considering the expected heavy rainfall. Proper measures should be taken to protect crops and livestock from potential damage.
  2. Tourists and Travelers: If you are planning to travel during this period, exercise extra caution to avoid any unforeseen situations caused by the wet weather. Stay informed about weather updates and road conditions before embarking on your journey.
  3. Electrical Safety: With the possibility of wind-thunderstorms, there is a risk of damage to loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. It is essential to be cautious around electrical installations and avoid going near them during adverse weather conditions.
  4. General Public: Stay at safe places during wind-storms, lightning, and heavy rains. It is advisable to remain indoors during intense weather events to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.
