PM orders consistent gas supply during Sehr, Iftar hours in Karachi

The Prime Minister has emphasized over adoption of a comprehensive strategy to ensure uninterrupted gas supply throughout the holy month.

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday ordered for a consistent gas supply during Sher and Iftar hours in Karachi.

The Prime Minister emphasized over adoption of a comprehensive strategy to ensure uninterrupted gas supply throughout the holy month.

He made these directives while chairing a meeting to address the issue of gas load-shedding in Karachi.

Karachi has been facing worst gas crisis for last couple of months and it turned out to be disturbing for the citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.

The sources revealed that the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had a shortage of over 300 mmcfd in gas supply.

Many parts of the city experienced low gas pressure or no gas supply at all as a technical fault at the Sawan gas field caused reduction of 44 mmcfd in gas supply.

North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Johar, Orangi Town, Korangi, Landhi, Baldia Town, Qaimkhani Colony, Liaquatabad, Hijrat Colony, Garden, DHA, Saddar, Kathore, Scheme 33 and more.

Last week, the residents of Baloch Para Jahangir Road staged a protest against gas load shedding which disrupted traffic from Guru Mandir to Teen Hatti.

The protesters complained of continuous gas shedding since the start of Ramadan, causing difficulties during Sehri and Iftar timings. They demanded the immediate restoration of gas supply in the area.

The people, especially the women faced huge trouble during Sehr and Iftar times as they failed to cook the meal.

“We are facing huge trouble in Sehr and Iftar,” said a woman, complaining about gas loadshedding in the city.

She said, “We can’t cook meal and are forced to buy food from the bazaars,”.

The food, she said, was quite expensive and it had been taking place for quite some time.

Another man said that they approached the local gas supply office but they did not bother to hear their grievances.
