PIA to Resume UK Flights on August 14 as Delegation Reviews Manchester Arrangements
MANCHESTER/KARACHI – July 24, 2025 – After years of suspension, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is all set to resume direct flights to the United Kingdom, with the first flight expected to take off on August 14. A top-level PIA delegation has arrived in Manchester to inspect and finalize arrangements ahead of the airline’s highly anticipated return to British skies.
The two-member delegation, comprising Chief Operating Officer Khurram Mushtaq and General Manager Coordination Zulqarnain Mehdi, is tasked with evaluating airport logistics, ground handling services, and compliance measures as part of the final preparation for resuming operations.
According to airline sources, PIA plans to initially launch four weekly flights between Islamabad and Manchester, with future plans to expand services to London and Birmingham.
Final Readiness Underway for UK Flight Resumption
The inspection team will submit a detailed report on the airline’s operational and logistical readiness. This report will play a critical role in ensuring a smooth and compliant launch, as PIA works to meet international aviation standards following the lifting of restrictions on its UK operations.
Earlier this month, PIA CEO conducted a comprehensive technical inspection of the Boeing 777 aircraft designated for the UK route. Held at the Asfahani Hangar in Karachi, the inspection focused on aircraft safety, technical upgrades, and passenger service enhancements. All departments have been instructed to ensure the aircraft is fully equipped and compliant with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) protocols.
A Boost to Bilateral Ties and Travel Demand
The UK is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner, with annual bilateral trade exceeding £4.7 billion. With the resumption of direct PIA flights, the move is expected to boost tourism, family reunification, and business travel between the two nations.
PIA’s return is particularly significant for the Pakistani diaspora in the UK, many of whom have long relied on direct connections to cities like Manchester, Birmingham, and London for visiting family, conducting business, or tourism.
Travel agents and aviation analysts also expect the move to strengthen confidence in the national carrier, especially if PIA maintains a strong record of punctuality, onboard service, and safety compliance.
