- The sources say that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called an important meeting of the coalition partners to hold important discussion at his Model Town residence in Lahore.
Lahore: Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders would sit together to discuss the ongoing political crisis, the legal challenges and would chalk out a joint strategy to deal with the overall situation today (Saturday), the sources said.
The sources claimed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called the meeting of the key coalition partners at Model Town residence in Lahore.
The PDM leaders would be briefed about the legal challenges, especially about the elections delay case being heard by the top court.
The coalition partners are meeting a day after the top court gave another opportunity to the government and the opposition to sit together and decide election date besides holding discussion on code of conduct for the elections.
CJP Umar Ata Bandial while heading a three-member bench of the Supreme Court for hearing of the petitions challenging delay in the elections of Punjab and KPK had observed that if the government and the opposition failed to set the date and conduct of conduct then the judges of the top court will play their constitutional role.
PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif, who is in London, demanded formation of the full court for hearing of the election delay case.
Nawaz Sharif categorically said that the whole nation showed mis-trust on the decision of the three-member bench of the Supreme Court and there is only one man whose name is Imran Khan had trust on it.
“Whether we have to make all these decisions for Imran Khan? Whether we have to make all these benches for Imran Khan?,” he asked.
He also said, “The decision of the full court will be acceptable to all. What is the vision behind three-member bench?,”.
“This is all that the nation needs to understand, two judges out of the three are those gave verdicts against Nawaz Sharif,” he added.
According to the sources, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is likely to take part in the meeting as his father party’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is getting medical treatment. The PDM, after the meeting, is expected to issue the declaration.
It may be mentioned here that the federal ministers of the coalition government including Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Marriyum Aurangzeb and others deamnded the top court to form a full court for hearing of the election delay case.
Marriyum Aurangzeb had said on Friday that they would not accept the decision of the newly constituted three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar.
She said that the full court should hear the matter, pointing out that the collective vision could take the country out of the crises.
