Pakistan has reclaimed its position as the world’s top-ranked one-day international (ODI) cricket team in the International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings, thanks to Australia’s recent loss to South Africa.
With a total of 3,102 points, Pakistan now stands as the undisputed No.1 ODI team in the ICC rankings. The Men in Green have competed in 27 matches, securing an impressive rating of 115.
Notably, Pakistan was closely trailed by India, who also had a rating of 115 points. However, despite winning the Asia Cup 2023 title and amassing more points (4,701) than Pakistan, the Men in Blue fell short of capturing the top spot. The key factor contributing to this outcome is the number of matches played, with India having participated in 41 matches, 14 more than Pakistan. Nevertheless, the margin between the two teams remains extremely narrow.
Australia, the former top-ranked team, now occupies the third position with 3,166 points and a rating of 113 after their recent loss to South Africa. The Kangaroos have played 28 matches, making their descent to third place in the rankings all the more significant.
Cricket enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting showdown between India and Australia as they are set to face off in a three-match series starting on September 22. This series presents both teams with another opportunity to claim the coveted No.1 spot in the ICC ODI rankings. The first match will take place in Mohali, followed by the second in Indore on the 24th, and the final encounter in Baroda on the 27th.
On the other hand, Pakistan will now directly qualify for the upcoming World Cup. Their campaign kicks off with a match against the Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad, and fans eagerly await their performance on the global stage.
