Pakistan’s cricket team fell to its lowest Test ranking since 1965 following a surprising 2-0 series defeat to Bangladesh, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Wednesday.
Bangladesh secured a six-wicket win in the second Test in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, marking their first-ever series victory against Pakistan.
As a result of the loss, Pakistan dropped from sixth to eighth place in the ICC Test rankings, marking their worst position in nearly six decades. The 12-team ranking is led by Australia, with India and England occupying second and third place, respectively. Bangladesh now ranks ninth.
The defeat also impacted Pakistan’s individual player rankings. Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi slipped out of the top 10, falling from ninth to 11th. In the batting rankings, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is the only Pakistani still in the top 10, while captain Babar Azam dropped three places to 12th after scoring just 64 runs in the two-Test series against Bangladesh.
