Pakistan, China to work for peaceful and stable Afghanistan: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, used Twitter to convey the strong agreement between Pakistan and China to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in Afghanistan. This agreement was reaffirmed during the 5th Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue held in Islamabad, where both nations emphasized their dedication to the well-being of the Afghan people.

PM Shehbaz stressed the importance of regional peace and stability to unlock economic potential, asserting that investing in peace and stability through a collective and sustained approach would yield mutual benefits, including improved regional connectivity and socioeconomic progress.

In the previous day’s 4th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the significance of peace and stability in Afghanistan for the region’s socioeconomic development and prosperity. He pledged to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful Afghanistan.

FM Bilawal expressed appreciation to China for its prompt and generous assistance amid the global economic challenges, emphasizing that Pakistan and China support each other on matters related to their core national interests in bilateral and multilateral engagements with other countries.

The alliance between Pakistan and China has expanded over time and enjoys widespread consensus across different generations and political divisions. Both countries have repeatedly affirmed their shared commitment to regional peace and stability, as evidenced by their joint efforts towards the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative.

CPEC, a flagship project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aims to promote infrastructure development and trade by connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa. It has made significant contributions to Pakistan’s economic growth and development.

Pakistan and China’s steadfast commitment to a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Afghanistan is crucial for the region’s socioeconomic advancement. Their joint endeavors towards CPEC and other initiatives demonstrate their shared vision for regional connectivity and development.
Earlier today, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Asim Munir, has emphasized the importance of enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan to tackle common challenges of terrorism and extremism effectively. In a meeting with the Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, both discussed mutual interests related to regional security, border management, and formalization of bilateral security mechanisms for the improvement of the current security environment. The army chief stressed the need for full support and commitment from the neighbouring country.
