Noose continues to tighten against PTI with arrest of Fawad Chaudhry

  • Fawad Chaudhry, a former information minister and PTI leader, was arrested outside the SC.
  • His arrest followed a 10-hour pursuit by the police.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest outside the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday has sent shockwaves throughout the country. The police apprehended the PTI leader after a 10-hour hide-and-seek that lasted until nearly midnight. His arrest follows the apprehension of several other PTI leaders, including Omer Sarfraz Cheema, Aliya Hamza, and Asad Umar, who were either detained or booked in different cases earlier in the day.

Fawad Chaudhry claimed that he had obtained protective bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) until May 12, but the police still attempted to arrest him. He further stated that he had filed a petition in the IHC for the implementation of its order. However, after his arrest, he commented, “We are ordinary individuals; the courts will not open for us in the middle of the night.”

The arrest of Fawad Chaudhry has sent shockwaves through the PTI party, which has already been under immense pressure due to allegations of corruption and mismanagement. Fawad Chaudhry , a former information minister, has been a prominent figure in the party and has been vocal in his support of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s policies.

The arrest is seen as a further tightening of the noose around the top brass of the PTI party, as several other senior leaders have also been implicated in various corruption scandals. The arrest of Fawad Chaudhry is likely to intensify these debates and add further fuel to the already contentious political landscape in Pakistan.
