Thunderstorm rain is expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Northeast Punjab, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) today, according to the Pakistan Met Office. While most of the country will experience hot and dry weather during the day, these regions are likely to see dust or thunderstorm rain.
Yesterday, the weather was predominantly hot and dry across the country, but there were scattered instances of rain, wind, and thunderstorms in certain areas. These included upper Punjab, DG Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Khuzdar. This variation in weather patterns brought some relief from the scorching heat.
The rainfall recorded in different regions is as follows: Jhelum in Punjab received 44 mm of rain, while Mandi Bahauddin and Mangla received 20 mm. DG Khan recorded 5 mm, Gujranwala 13 mm, Sialkot 12 mm (City) and 11 mm (Airport), Narowal 10 mm, Gujrat 9 mm, Lahore 5 mm (City) and 3 mm (Airport), Noor Pur Thal 2 mm, and Joharabad 1 mm. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar received 12 mm (City) and 9 mm (Airport), while Bacha Khan Airport and Cherat recorded 5 mm of rainfall. Bannu received 4 mm. In Kashmir, Rawalakot received 17 mm, Kotli 15 mm, and Garhi Dupatta 3 mm. Khuzdar in Balochistan received 2 mm of rainfall.
In terms of maximum temperatures recorded on Monday, Dadu and Nokundi experienced scorching highs of 47°C, while Rohri and Dalbandin recorded 45°C. These high temperatures further contributed to the overall heatwave conditions experienced in various parts of the country.
The Met Office’s forecast for today predicts thunderstorm rain in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northeast Punjab, and AJK. It is important for residents of these areas to stay updated with the latest weather reports and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during inclement weather conditions.
Thunderstorms can bring heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning, which may lead to flash floods and disruption of daily activities.
