A mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, has resulted in at least four deaths and dozens of injuries. The incident occurred in the Five Points South area just after 11:00 PM.
Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that multiple shooters fired at a crowd. Authorities found two adult men and one adult woman on the sidewalk, all suffering from gunshot wounds. All three were pronounced dead at the scene, and a fourth victim succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital.
At least four other individuals sustained life-threatening injuries, while others had various types of injuries. Fitzgerald noted that no suspects are currently in custody, and he urged the public to come forward with any information to assist the investigation.
Multiple agencies, including the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, are working on the case. Fire rescue services have secured the area as the investigation continues.
So far this year, the United States has seen at least 403 mass shootings, which are defined as incidents involving at least four victims, either dead or injured. According to the Gun Violence Archive, over 12,416 people have died due to gun violence in the U.S. this year.
