Maryam Nawaz criticises CJP Bandial for releasing Imran Khan in Al-Qadir Trust case

CJP Bandial receives criticism from Maryam Nawaz for leaving Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

LAHORE: The Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz, has expressed her dissatisfaction with Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial’s decision to release Imran Khan and has called for his resignation. Maryam criticized the chief justice for being overly delighted to meet someone accused of embezzling Rs 60 billion from the national treasury and releasing the alleged criminal. She also blamed the chief justice for shielding Imran Khan, allowing attacks on critical institutions, and escalating tensions in the country.

Maryam suggested that the chief justice should resign from his position and join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as his mother-in-law did. Her comments followed the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s declaration that Imran Khan’s arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case was illegal and ordered his immediate release. Imran Khan had appealed his arrest in the Supreme Court after the Islamabad High Court had previously declared it legal. The paramilitary Rangers force arrested him on orders from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for allegedly looting Rs50 billion from the national treasury and registering the Al-Qadir University Trust on 450-kanal of land.

Federal Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to provide relief to the PTI chairman, calling him a criminal, terrorist, and gangster who leads armed groups. She lamented that the arrest of Imran Khan had prompted terrorists and armed groups to attack public property in the country. Marriyum Aurangzeb added that if the courts support armed groups, then the same relief should be given to all people, and the real contempt of court happens when the courts become sanctuaries for terrorists and armed groups.

In conclusion, the release of Imran Khan has been criticized by Maryam Nawaz and Marriyum Aurangzeb, who have accused the chief justice and the courts of supporting a “criminal and a terrorist.”
