Imran Khan announces public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on Wednesday

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Sunday announced that the PTI would hold public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on Wednesday (March 22).

“There is no other way but to hold free and fair elections in the country,” the former prime minister said while addressing the nation via video link.

The former prime minister’s address comes a day after he arrived at the Federal Judicial Complex to attend a hearing in the Toshakhana case on Saturday.

However, soon Imran Khan left for Islamabad, a heavy contingent of police launched an operation at Zaman Park, Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore, and claimed to have arrested PTI workers with weapons and petrol bombs.

Addressing the nation, Imran said he wanted to talk to the nation last night, but he couldn’t. He said that it was good that he didn’t address the nation because he was very angry.

The former prime minister said that the entire nation knew that he always respected and ensured the rule of law. He said that 96 fake cases had been registered against him across the country.

Imran Khan held the coalition government responsible for the attempt on his life in Wazirabad.

The PTI chairman came down hard on the interim Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi during his address. He said that the elections were announced in Punjab for April 30. After that the PTI decided to start its election drive by arranging an election rally in Lahore on March 8.

Imran Khan said that the PTI finalised the rally route after consulting the police on the night of March 7. Police also approved the route. “But the next day, as we are about to start, the interim Punjab government imposed Section 144 in the provincial capital and placed containers,” he added.
