Kuwait Eases Family Visit Visa Requirements, Removes Income Threshold

Kuwait Eases Family Visit Visa Requirements

Kuwait has announced major reforms to its family visit visa policy, removing the minimum income requirement for foreign residents who wish to invite relatives. The change, confirmed by officials this week, is part of a broader effort to promote openness, strengthen social ties, and make travel to Kuwait more accessible for expatriate families.

Col. Abdulaziz Al Kandari from the General Residency Department’s Electronic Services Administration stated that the long-standing salary threshold has now been eliminated, meaning any legal resident in Kuwait can sponsor family members for a visit regardless of income level. This move is expected to benefit thousands of expatriates who were previously unable to reunite with their loved ones due to financial criteria.

The updated rules also expand eligibility for visitors, now allowing relatives up to the fourth degree of kinship and in-laws up to the third degree to apply for visit visas. This widens the scope beyond immediate family members, enabling more extended family reunions.

Another significant change is the removal of the restriction requiring visitors to arrive exclusively via Kuwait’s national airline. Acting Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al Yousuf has directed that the “national carrier” rule be lifted, allowing visitors to enter Kuwait through land, sea, or air, and via any airline of their choice.

Col. Al Kandari emphasized that these measures aim to simplify travel procedures and reinforce family bonds, reflecting Kuwait’s commitment to making the country more welcoming for residents and their relatives. The decision is part of a series of entry rule reforms designed to enhance the quality of life for expatriates while fostering stronger community ties.
