Khusro Bakhtiar, Former Federal Minister, Resigns from PTI

Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, a former federal minister and prominent member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced his departure from the party on Friday, citing the events of May 9 as the reason behind his decision.

In a video message released on Friday, Khusro Bakhtiar expressed his disassociation from the philosophy of PTI, stating, “I can no longer align myself with the PTI’s ideology.” He revealed during the past year, he had kept a distance from the party and maintained inactivity as a core committee member.

Bakhtiar highlighted that the incidents that took place on May 9 were the final trigger for him to move away from the PTI’s ideology. He further stated that he had previously informed the party leadership about the harmful consequences of confrontation with institutions.

Earlier in the day, Firdous Ashiq Awan, a former special assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab, also decided to leave the PTI following the violence on May 9. Speaking at a press conference, Awan condemned the events and claimed that the vandalism at Zaman Park had been planned. She alleged that a conspiracy was orchestrated with a foreign agenda to discredit the country’s institutions and serve foreign interests.
