Jemima jubilant over Imran Khan’s release

Jemima is overjoyed that Imran Khan was released

Jemima Goldsmith, the ex-wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and a film producer, expressed her happiness on social media after the Supreme Court ordered the release of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman. Khan was arrested by Rangers personnel on the grounds of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Al-Qadir Trust case, acting on the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) warrant.

The IHC took notice of Khan’s arrest and deemed it “legal.” The PTI subsequently moved the Supreme Court for their chairman’s release. The top court declared Khan’s arrest “illegal” and ordered his immediate release on Thursday. Goldsmith tweeted a response to the SC’s decision, saying, “Finally, sense has prevailed,” along with an emoji of hands folded in prayer and the Pakistani flag.

Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and other PTI leaders are facing a NAB investigation into a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon that reportedly resulted in a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer. According to the allegations, Khan and other individuals supposedly manipulated the Rs50 billion (£190 million at the time) that was sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government of Pakistan. Additionally, they are accused of receiving unlawful benefits through the acquisition of over 458 kanals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, which was intended for the establishment of Al Qadir University.

The former premier was picked up from the Islamabad High Court when he appeared for hearings on his bail petitions some other cases. After his arrest, violent protests broke out across the country, resulting in at least eight deaths and infrastructure damage.
